Eddie gets artistic. You saw a brief rendition of this clip in the PJ20 movie. Ed was desparately seeking some anonymity after the success of the first two albums Ten, and Vs.  As an artistic demonstration of that desire he would wear this giant bug mask.  Not sure if that helped him be anonymous on the street but at least when when people saw that they would walk the other way rather than run to him!
