A Book of Thanks from the Fans

Have you submitted your Pearl Jam story yet?  Our friends at "To Pearl Jam With Love" are compiling submissions so they can publish a book written by the collective #PJFAM and submit it to the band.  What a great way to show our appreciation!

If you're in the New York Area, check out the fundraiser to help get the book off the ground.  It's Sunday, June 9th at Even Flow Bar & Grill.  Click here for more details.

Pearl Jam - Life Wasted

From AOL sessions in 2006. Eddie Vedder is quoted as saying:

Eddie and Johnny
"When you leave that funeral, that drive is as important as any single stretch of road you'll travel on. You've got a renewed appreciation for life. And I think that feeling can last through the day, through the week, but then things start getting back to normal and you start taking this living and breathing and eating thing for granted. I think that song is there to remind you, 'This is that feeling'....The truth is—I'm a little sensitive and this is a close, personal relationship. I'll just say it. Fuck it. Right up front. Half the record is based on the loss of the guy who turned out to be the best friend I ever had on the planet. And that was Johnny Ramone." [1]

Lyrics:

You're always saying that there's something wrong,...
I'm starting to believe it's your plan all along,...

Death came around, forced to hear its song,...
And know tomorrow can't be depended on.

I seen the home inside your head,...
All locked doors and unmade beds.
Open sores unattended
Let me say just once that

I have faced it,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again.

I escaped it,... A life wasted,..
I'm never going back again.

Having tasted,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again

The world awaits just up the stairs
Leave the pain for someone else.

Nothing back there for you to find,...
Or was it you, you left behind?

You're always saying you're too weak to be strong,...
You're harder on yourself than just about anyone,...

Why swim the channel just to get this far?
Halfway there, why would you turn around?

Darkness comes in waves,... tell me,
why invite it to stay?

You're warm with negativity,
Yes, comfort is an energy,...
But why let the sad song play?

I have faced it,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again.

Oh I escaped it,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again.

Having tasted,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again.

Oh I erased it,... A life wasted,...
I'm never going back again.

  1. The first time, he I says, "I embraced it, A life wasted," i.e. "I've been there, man." And then he only gives his advice once, knowing the guy is either ready to hear it or not. Very cool!
